DIRECTION:

The creative direction of Kevin Van is centered upon timelessness in terms of design and the quality of materials used. The upcycling of vintage garments and the use sustainable methods are present within Kevin Van. Rooted in existentialism; mixing avant-garde and contemporary design while implementing a spectrum of organic materials such as leather, wool, linen, cotton, etc. There is heavy focus upon utilitarian and experimental principles in which design abilities are applied in a perpetuating effort to form timeless garments. The garment design process puts emphasis upon architectural shapes, perennial silhouettes, textures, high quality materials, subtleness, sophistication, and meticulous attention to detail.

PROCESS:

The process of my work consists of a series of actions from initial conception to final construction. An idea is formulated in mind and then translated onto paper in the form of a sketch. Once silhouettes, materials, colors, and details are determined the next stage in production is pattern making. In this phase builders paper is used to make the pattern for the individual parts which entails precise measurements, curvatures, and design details.
The fabric chosen holds certain characteristics which include quality, durability, sophistication, and timelessness. The pattern templates are then laid onto the fabric, traced with chalk, and cut. The final stage of the process is sewing and assembling the parts in a meticulous manner to strive for perfection and reach complete construction.
